Potato Harvest 2018

After a late start, the potato harvest is in full swing!  It’s always a busy couple of months with two harvesters in operation.  We are digging Maris Piper in Mullaghroe this week – a variety that is yielding well and is becoming increasingly popular.  It has been a nervous couple of months to see how the crops would fare after near catastrophic levels of drought in the summer.  We were able to irrigate at key times which has made a difference on both yield and quality.  The team is ploughing and sowing directly behind the harvesters.  Like the grain harvest, the dry weather makes this kind of work much more efficient.
